QCCC shifts base for its Survival Camps Program
Queensland Conference and Camping Centres (QCCC) is moving its popular Survival Camp program to the Cobb and Co Nine Mile Camping Grounds, offering a rich new context for participants to learn essential outdoor skills, on a modern and comfortable property. Situated on 50 lush acres along Six Mile Creek, just south of Gympie, the historic site was once the first stop on the Cobb and Co stagecoach route from Gympie to Noosa, dating back to 1878. The grounds include remains of an old bridge used by bullock teams, railroad workers, and passengers transferring to stagecoaches, adding depth to the outdoor experience.
The staff team at Cobb and Co have been incredible, welcoming the QCCC Team and making exclusive parts of this exquisite property available exclusively for the Survival skills program. With its storied past, including tales of pioneering settlers, bushrangers, the site is steeped in Queensland’s history. This atmosphere enhances the Survival Camp, as participants work together in teams to acquire vital bush and survival skills. Cobb and Co Nine Mile provides an ideal natural and historical backdrop, validating QCCC’s mission to partner with our school groups to immerse students in experiential education, focussed on environmental stewardship, teamwork, and personal growth. A popular destination for family groups on weekends and school holidays, through school term the property will be available exclusively for QCCC groups, and offers modern amenities, breathtaking and secluded scenery, and glamping accommodation options for accompanying teacher and school staff.
QCCC are also installing a covered area, food, and equipment storage areas exclusively for the use of school Survival Camp programs. QCCC’s Survival Program offers tailored experiences that include day, overnight, and extended expeditions through breathtaking environments. Students learn bushcraft, shelter-building, and fire-cooking, and gain an understanding of Australia’s natural and cultural heritage, including insights shared by local custodians from the Kabi Kabi People. Many schools choose to incorporate a 24-hour solo experience, which we can accommodate in our fleet of swags.
Research shows outdoor education boosts confidence, self-belief, and leadership, providing students with valuable experiences to showcase on resumes. QCCC’s Survival Program offers a transformative experience, equipping students with both life and employability skills while making memories that last a lifetime. We particularly value the opportunity to partner with schools to design programs tailored to students’ abilities and learning outcomes, making a lasting impact on students’ personal growth and resilience.
