What is Pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddle sport that blends elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Played on a smaller court than tennis and using a solid paddle and perforated plastic ball, the game is easy to learn and incredibly fun for players of all ages and skill levels.

You can play singles or doubles, and games are typically fast-paced and full of laughter. Because of its smaller court size and lightweight equipment, pickleball is accessible even for beginners and those who may find tennis a bit too intense.

How Does Pickleball Differ from Tennis?

While pickleball shares some similarities with tennis, it has a few distinct differences that make it unique:
• Court Size: Pickleball courts are significantly smaller—about a quarter the size of a standard tennis court—which means less running and more gameplay.
• Paddles & Balls: Players use solid paddles (usually made of composite or wood) and a plastic ball with holes, similar to a wiffle ball.
• Serve Style: Serves must be underhand and diagonal, adding a different rhythm and pace to the game.
• Scoring: Points are only scored by the serving team, and games are typically played to 11 points (win by 2).
• The Kitchen: One of the most unique rules is the “non-volley zone,” affectionately called “the kitchen,” near the net. Players can’t volley the ball while standing in this area, which adds a strategic layer to each match.

All these factors combine to create a sport that’s easy to pick up, social, and a whole lot of fun!
