In 2023 QCCC Mt Tamborine will be offering a Gap Year experience for school-leavers and young adults. While the details are still being worked on we want to let you know about the opportunities we are hoping this will offer.
The new program will offer a staged approach across two years, with the opportunity, in the first year, to develop skills and experience across the broad scope of Camping Ministry. In the second year there will be the opportunity to specialise in Outdoor Education (in partnership with Vertec Adventure), Church-based Youth/Children’s or other ministry areas (in partnership with Crosslife – a baptist church), or in a specific area of Camping Ministry eg Chef, Admin, Maintenance etc as available at QCCC Mt Tamborine).
The following is a broad outline of the two years and the qualifications that will be offered;
Gap Year Camping Ministry Internship (Year One)
At least three units from the Outdoor Leadership (OL) Cert III
At least three units offered within the Christian Ministry and Theology (CMT) Cert IV
A ‘specialised elective’ in Camping Ministry written specifically for QCCC within the CMT Cert IV
A Statement of Attainment in these units will be offered for anyone who wishes to complete their Internship at the end of Year One.
Each intern will gain experience in all areas of Camping Ministry including Outdoors Leadership and hospitality services.
Each intern will gain experience of hands-on experience in ministry with Youth and/or Children (and possibly in other ministry areas) with Crosslife – a baptist church.
Each intern will be involved in Christian discipleship growth including involvement in the Queensland Baptist’s ‘Project 11’, An Outback mission trip, a Reflective Adventure experience with QCCC Mapleton, and personal mentoring.
At the end of the year each intern, in consultation with Internship staff and mentors, may choose to enter a second year in which they;
Complete their Cert IV in Christian Ministry and Theology with Crosslife – a baptist church, with a specialisation in Ministry with Youth, Ministry with Children or Ministry with Small Groups (ongoing accommodation and work will be provided at QCCC Mt Tamborine and interns will continue to be part of the QCCC Mt Tamborine Internship) OR
Upon offer, enter a traineeship or apprenticeship in a specialist area at QCCC Mt Tamborine OR
Complete their Gap Year internship.
*The Certificate III in Outdoor Leadership and Certificate IV in Christian Ministry and Theology are accredited training through Malyon Vocational Training (RTO: # 30002).
Requirements:
Applicants must hold a valid paid Working With Children Check Blue Card or be able to attain one prior to commencing employment.
As it is a requirement to be an adult to take responsibility for groups of children, interns must turn 18 before June 30 in their first year of the internship.
Willingness to work rostered weekends and weekdays as part of the 38 hours of work per week
Desire and a heart for Christian ministry and serving others
Willingness to participate as a leader in at least one school holiday outreach ministry camp each year
