Accommodation Refurbishment at Mapleton

QCCC’s Mapleton Adventure Camp Venue will start 2019 with a fresh look after a refurbishment of all the site’s accommodation.  Earlier this year Harrison Lodge was the first accommodation to get an upgrade with Merrin Lodge recently completed.  The refurbishments to these accommodation wings complements the modern, ensuite accommodation on offer at Lethem Lodge.

The major part of the work was the replacement of the wooden bunks which have been used since the site was opened in 1983.  These bunks had been altered to achieve compliance with Queensland’s Bunk Bed standards in 2012 but have now been totally replaced.  It is estimated that during their lifetime each of these bunks has slept 2,500 individuals for more than 5,000 bed nights.  The wooden bunks have been replaced with modern and robust Australian standard steel bunks.

The electronics in each room have been given an upgrade too, with the installation of twin power points with USB chargers, quadrupling the charging capacity for mobile phones and tablet devices.  It’s part of a rolling program of modernising the venue, keeping it in line with community standards and expectations.

Teacher accommodation is next in line for an upgrade to the ensuite facilities.  This has commenced in some rooms and will be rolled out across the site, including improvements to some bathrooms for people with disabilities.

The grounds and activities have also received attention with the pool complex given a bright face lift and an improved sun safe pavilion.  The smaller Flying Fox has been slightly elevated and lengthened but remains suitable for our youngest guests.  In the next month final approvals will be in place for “Kidcaff Farm”, a recently purchased 20-acre rural property to the south of our main complex.  This property will be established with more water-based activities, farm experiences and indigenous bush food trails as part of the Triballink Centre.

QCCC’s culture is one of constant improvement and these investments and new initiatives will continue to grow the impressive legacy QCCC Mapleton enjoys as one of Queensland’s premiere EducationCamps.
